Yesterday, Kodak’s Chief Marketing Officer, Jeffrey Hazlett said on the BBC Programme, “Working Lunch” that Kodak now employ a chief listener as well as a Chief Blogger.

What does a chief listener do?
A chief listener main responsibilities lie with what the consumers, blog visitors as well as their company’s ‘fans’ and ‘friends’ on social networking sites like Facebook.

Their job is to read what comments are said about their products/services and then be proactive about those comments whether if they are compliments or complaints.

They may reply to the comments themselves, facilitate communication between the correct company department and the comment maker or they may make suggestions or advise the company on how to improve their products or services.

Why is it important?
This is an important because it shows some blue chip companies are taking social media websites seriously as a marketing channel. What Kodak does online is also usually followed by the majority of online businesses. For example, Kodak was one of first to blue chip companies to utilise both SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and PPC (Pay Per Click) for marketing.
